Minimalist

Over the years, I've reduced the amount of gear I bring to weddings to shoot with. Now, I only shoot with one body and two lenses. In my bag though, I'll have an extra body just in case with another lens attached. There's also one flash unit in there, but it's rarely (if ever) used.

I'm such a miminalist that the only equipment on me is an extra memory card. I'm probably the only photographer I know of that doesn't even shoot with camera straps!

Because of the way I shoot, I find that the "best" shots are when I blend-in with all the guests. That's how I capture "these" genuine moments. Unfortunately, I wasn't close enough to hear the joke, but it seems pretty funny!

Rob (from DS) accompanied me at one of my shoots for a bride's final dress fitting. I'm not a "video guy" but I really admire his work - it's current, cool, and different! He got some great footage of the shoot.

The Fitting & The Wedding Day

To say it's been a while since I've last posted would be an understatement. When I finally get around to it, I'll set up my new blog. ;) However, it will rarely deal with my wedding work. So as one of my last posts with this blog, I've decided to showcase some images from last week's bridal dress fitting and the wedding day that followed.

Approximately 48HRS to go!  Check back this weekend to see what I've been up to.  My new website will finally launch (with a new url address.)  Unfortunately, I'll also be retiring this blog as well.  I've decided to make the move to bigfolio and I couldn't be happier.  I'll release the details as soon as it goes live!    

Look Around

Marketers are doing a great job at convincing us that our photo equipment is outdated and it's time to upgrade - from pros with their full-frame DSLRs to amateurs/hobbyist with their point & shoots. But is it really necessary?

It's more about learning and fully maximizing your equipment's capabilities. This topic is one of the most debatable issues in the digital photography world - so instead of hearing my perspective (I merely brought it up), I 'd rather showcase some of my work!

A great thing about shooting weddings is that there's always so much going on - just look around. These shots were from a wedding a few weeks back at the Old Mill. For anyone that's been there, you don't need me to tell you that as charming as it is, it's also as dark and dimly lit as any venue out there!

The first image was shot using the 24-70 (zoomed out) @ f2.8, 3200 iso, and the second one with the 50mm @ f1.4, 3200 iso. BTW, I added more noise to the second image - I just prefer it.

Now back to pondering what "new" equipment is needed for next season!
